The September 2010 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Mandy of “What the Fruitcake?!” Mandy challenged everyone to make Decorated Sugar Cookies based on recipes from Peggy Porschen and The Joy of Baking.
A cookie decorator, I am not. But the up side is that for the first time in my life I have successfully made cut-out sugar cookies and they were good! The challenge was to make and decorate cookies to signify what September means to me. September has a lot of meanings to me. It is the month of my birthday as well as my husband’s birthday. It is also the month of our wedding anniversary and this year we celebrated 10 years together. Honestly, it seems like we’ve been together forever but not long enough to add up to 10 years.
My attempts at cookie decorating with Royal Icing – not so good. If I could have used buttercream, maybe they would be better decorated. We had airplanes, cars, footballs, helmets, dinosaurs, dogs, alphabet letters and people. It was a good time cutting the cookies out as I had a 3 year old to assist. Somewhere there are pictures of that – I’ll have to add those at another time. For now, this is what we came up with.
